RENTAL INSURANCE

Evaluate your property
Make a complete inventory of your possessions. Write down each item along with where it was purchased, the purchase date, price and the current replacement price.

Total these amounts to get an estimated value of your property. It will also be helpful when estimating the value of your property to contact your insurance agent to determine the level of coverage you will need.

Ask your insurance agent what is covered under your policy
Most insurance policies have dollar limits on certain items, so be familiar with these limitations. These items would be specifically mentioned in your policy and will include such possessions as jewelry, firearms, money and watercrafts. Ask your insurance agent about protection for computers and other electronic equipment.

Liability Insurance
You might be held liable for personal insurance if someone is either injured or his or her personal property is damaged inside your residence. Renters' insurance will help protect you in the case of liability claim, as well as any legal costs.

Storage Items
Ask your storage facility and your insurance agent to tell you what is protected by your insurance policy. Most policies provide some limited coverage on belongings stored away from your home.

Automobile Insurance
Discuss your move with your insurance agent. He will have the best answers for all your questions about out-of-state residency.

Health Insurance
Your health insurance provider will be able to give you proper information about any out-of-state claims that might arise.
